When Brenna MacCrimmon "stumbled across the music of Turkey and the Balkans" it, in her words, "took over my life". She has since been to Turkey many times to study and play this music, living there at one point for five years.
She has completed a number of recording projects including:
Karsilama - with Selim Sesler on Green Goat/Kalan
Ayde Mori - with Muammer Ketencoglu, Sumru Agiryuren & Cevdet Erek on Kalan
Balkan Journeys Close to Home on Golden Horn Records.
She has also performed as a guest musician with:
BaBA ZuLa on Double Moon
Edessa on AgaRhythms
and Selim Sesler's latest recording on Doublemoon.
Brenna is currently based in Toronto, while continuing to perform and collaborate with musicians in the USA and Turkey, including 'Edessa' and 'Baba Zula' who just played with her here in Toronto on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Brenna has worked on music for film, theatre and even television and has taught Turkish and Balkan songs from Canada to Japan.
She is currently completing a new full length recording, which is being mixed by 'Legion of Green Men'.
