ALAN GASSER

Georgian Singer
One Voice Music Director

Artist Bio

Alan Gasser grew up singing in community and within his NE Ohio family. He has sung Georgian folk music since 1985, with the Kartuli Ensemble, and as founding member of the Trio Kavkasia and founding leader of Darbazi. He is also an experienced conductor, professional chorister and voice teacher. Alan has co-directed the Echo Women's Choir since 1993, and has led choirs and taught voice students in the Music Department of York University, as well as for the Royal Conservatory of Music, in the Toronto School Board and at Toronto's 1st Unitarian Congregation.

His active workshop schedule leads him into diverse corners: from Toronto's public schools to the universities and colleges of Swarthmore, Grinnell, Dartmouth and Mary Washington, as well as the San Francisco Bay-area women's group Kitka. The range of his teaching is wide, from small-town New Hampshire (Yeoman's Fund) to the rigors of teaching adults and teenagers in numerous Village Harmony camps and tours. In Canada he leads workshops and supervises the summer Vocal Camps of Worldsongs. Alan has recorded three albums with Trio Kavkasia, and led the Echo Women's Choir and Darbazi in their CDs, besides producing Heart Songs & Parlour Songs, with Becca Whitla.
