Small World Music Festival's unique Canadian Cross-Cultural Musical Collaboration series features ONE VOICE, under the musical direction of Alan Gasser. This grouping of incredible talent represents traditions from Latin America, Iran, Eastern Europe, India and West Africa and will celebrate the voice as the essential music of human expression – the songs, poetry and passion from around the world that unite in Toronto's unique cultural geography. Following on the heels of last year's World on a String and Drum Nation in 2006, these extraordinary, diverse talents will spend the week in rehearsal and repertoire development. The result is sure to be a groundbreaking celebration of Canada's uniquely diverse, vocal traditions mosaic -- one that the participants in the workshop which precedes the show will experience and appreciate even more vividly.
This kind of fusion is the real expression and culmination of what it means to be living in Toronto: a place that has brought together people from all over the world. A fascinating, and exceptionally historically unique, phenomenon.
