Iranian Vocal Legend Sima Bina Returns to Toronto

Sima Bina is truly one of the greatest folk singers of Iran. While folk songs are not as popular as traditional classical music (or pop for that matter) in Iran, she has exposed the forgotten tunes through years of research and hard work. Her knowledge of the folk repertoire has given her a unique place in the world music scene and her vibrant stage presence makes it a wonderful experience for any audience. While there are not many female singers in Iran, due to the prohibition of female singing, her dedication is all the more remarkable and it is always a heart warming experience to see artists with such commitment and talent as her.

Her concert on May 27th is of particular interest since it is rare to see Sima Bina with a fully classical ensemble, and Lian Ensemble brings a unique touch of its own that makes it all worth while. On top of that, Toronto’s virtuoso tar player Amir Koushkani will join them on stage, offering his extraordinary talent to the mix .
